Wow! What Happened To September?

So it’s the last day of September and I am finally able to sit a moment in the QUIET to post something. All of the children are finally back to school, again. All things in my world seem to be back in order. Hopefully they will stay that way for awhile. Hurricane Ike had a pretty big impact on the area I live in. We had no power for a week and our schools were out for almost two weeks. Some of the people in my subdivision had major damage to their homes.  I think that we had the least amount of damage at our house. We had a section of fence blow over and a piece of plywood came off of our new tree house. That was it. A few branches and leaves in the yard. We were very blessed. Not just because we had no damage but it was amazing to see how our neighbors helped each other when times were tough.

At our house it was kind of like an adventure! We had ice chests in the living room, a generator on the back porch and all of the windows open. My little one thought it was kind of like camping. The only thing he was bothered by was no "etricity" for the TV. He asked about the "etricity" all day everyday. I finally had to tell him the TV was broken. What was I thinking? How do you explain electricity to a 5 year old? The weather here was amazing. It was so cool that we never suffered too much from the heat. So we just pretended we were camping. We cooked on the grill and ate by candlelight. Dad had to go to work every morning so it was just us. He said he felt guilty going to work in the air conditioning and eating food that wasn’t out of an ice chest or off of the grill but I told him not to worry. We were just fine. We are pretty tough. We played outside and talked to the neighbors most of the time. Our next door neighbors have a really big BBQ pit and they kept it burning for days. The surrounding neighbors would bring food throw it on the pit and everybody would eat their dinner at picnic tables they have in their backyard. And before we knew it, we had power. Thank You Centerpoint!

So, I don’t have anything ready to show you but I have made a few things. They are either still on the table or in the camera. It’s not easy to make things by the light of day. You have to do some serious planning. After I would do the laundry and yes I put up a clothes line and hung my clothes in the backyard. It sure has been a long time since I had to do that. Now I didn’t have to use a washboard or anything. I was able to hook the washer up to the generator so I didn’t have to work too hard. Then I had to boil water for dishes and baths. I also had to SWEEP. I never thought to hook up the vacuum cleaner to the generator. Next time, I’ll think of that. So after all of my chores were done, all of the playing in the yard was done and before it got dark in my craft room which was pretty late in the afternoon, I made a few cards.

I know I am very blessed.

Many people have suffered great loss and are still without. Please pray for all of those people that have been affected by Hurricane Ike. And for that matter all of the other hurricanes.

I hope everyone has a great day!
